With regards to its overall HSE-objectives and targets, Merck Ltd. will:
Comply with the requirements of relevant legislation and regulations.
Incorporate appropriate environmental/safety/health criteria and factors into business decisions.
Develop management processes and operational procedures whose functions are to prevent pollution and continuously improve environmental/safety/health performance.
Reduce the consumption of raw materials, minimize the use of environmentally sensitive materials and promote the use of recycled materials, wherever possible.
Avoid and minimize waste as far as possible and ensure all waste is managed, treated and disposed of in an environmentally acceptable manner.
Conduct audits on-site to ensure operations are in compliance with HSE-management requirements.
Provide appropriate levels of training and support to management and employees to ensure they are able to fulfil HSE-management responsibilities.
Work with major suppliers, contractors and customers to facilitate their HSE-performance improvement.
Make the environmental/safety policy and environmental/safety programs available to the public and be supportive of local HSE-initiatives.
Ensure appropriate resources are available to fully implement policy and continuously review the policy's relevance with respect to legal and business developments.

December 2002Merck Thailand launched its Retrologistics Project, which has brought the entire operations of Merck up to World standards in environmental protection. We invested about 500,000 Baht on the development and installation of Retrologistics equipment under the guidance of experts from Merck KGaA Germany.
