Chemicals Distribution Center

In 1995, Merck Ltd. constructed a Chemicals Distribution Center on a 4,800 sqm plot of land at Bangpoo Industrial Estate (38 km from Bangkok). This warehouse facilitates storing a sufficient local stock of chemical products in order to meet high availability, delivery and service standards. Moreover, the facilities exceeded local safety and environmental regulations by implementing Merck's worldwide Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policy in Thailand. Thus, the company lives up to, and is aware of, customer service and responsible care.

However, as the business and the local demand for Merck Ltd.'s chemical products increased significantly, the company decided to invest 75 million Baht in expanding the warehouse in 2000. We more than doubled the initial storage capacity, allowing Merck Ltd. to keep more than 6,000 different chemical products in stock.

Moreover, this challenging project further demonstrates -Merck's commitment to -environmental and social responsibilities. Almost 20 percent of the total investment provided went into obtaining complex firefighting equipment and a state-of-the-art storage system, reflecting our continued dedication and commitment. It is driven by close attention to international standards, and to the Merck SHE-policy in particular.

With the expanded Chemicals Distribution Center, Merck Ltd. will excel in customer service quality and enhanced public and environmental accountability. Merck Ltd's Chemicals Distribution Center is one of the safest and most modern in Thailand. The layout of the building was designed by experts from Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany. Chemicals are stored in 14 different zones, not only in accordance to Thai standards -- but also in line with standards developed by the Association of the Chemical Industry in Germany (VCI), in line with German regulations for hazardous substances.

Our new facilities have not only increased our storage capacity, resulting in higher product availability, but they enhanced product quality; there are now two additional temperature-controlled rooms (at 15°C and 22°C) for storing low temperature products. Safe dangerous goods storage is ensured by well- designed firefighting and fire detection systems, including state-of-the-art logistics equipment such as high racking systems and the first explosion-proof Very Narrow Aisle (V N A) forklift truck in Thailand.

In addition, the Chemicals Distribution Center provides a training room and a laboratory demonstration room for visiting groups of visitors up to 50 people. The newly expanded Chemicals Distribution Center boasts premium facilities, but is also based on new logistics-flow processes in order to deliver the best services and support to our customers in line with our company's vision: "To be the company that comes first to customers' minds for innovative and outstanding customer service and support in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry in Thailand".
