CARE Thailand / Raks Thai Foundation Website
The Raks Thai Foundation is the local organization of CARE International, one of the world’s largest development and relief
organizations. The foundation and Merck Thailand work hand in hand, because we care.
The Merck Young Leadership Development Program has been initiated under the Merck & CARE partnership, to develop leadership
training for students, young adults and community leaders in northeastern Thailand. The program includes training sessions
to develop leadership, interpersonal as well as communication skills. It attempts to manage worry and stress with greater
confidence. CARE Thailand / Raks Thai Foundation and Merck Thailand have set up a governing committee to oversee this innovative
program.
Merck contributes to the Young Leadership Development Program not only through fundraising activities. Our caring employees
play an active role and organize different events to improve the living conditions of the rural communities in the program
area.
The Merck Community Caring and Action Partnership, in the North of Thailand is the second program Merck Ltd. supports. This
program strengthens the capacity of communities to solve problems relating to natural resource management and works to develop
sustainable livelihoods in Mae Chaem, a few hours outside of Chiang Mai.
CARE Thailand / Raks Thai Foundation and Merck Thailand are also partnering to make a contribution to help "Stop Global Warming"
under the Merck Community Caring & Action Partnership Program.
The latest program developed through the Merck Ltd. and Raks Thai Foundation partnership is the Merck Tsunami Relief and Rehabilitation
Program, in Ranong and Krabi Provinces. Raks Thai, with Merck support, is building an All-Purpose Community Center along with
a teacher dormitory and other campus equipment in Ban Bang Bane village, in Ranong. This community center will provide a
space where villagers can organize activities for the prevention of further disasters, as well as for other community projects
such as occupational funds, community strengthening, and youth leadership activities. In Krabi province, occupational loans
have been handed out to 53 families in need, as of September 2006, to buy boats and fishing equipment lost in the disaster
– so that they can get back on their feet and build sustainable lives.
